Summary
Louisville instituted a 6.25 lbs per parcel limit on storing gunpowder and a 28 lbs cap for total gunpowder stored. Erecting a powder house within 200 feet of another building was prohibited.
Statutory Text
No person shall erect, use or occupy, as a powder magazine, any house located within two hundred feet of another building, nor then, unless the house be fire- proof and enclosed within a fence at least twelve feet high, under a penalty of fifty dollars.
No person shall have in one house or place, other than a powder magazine, a quantity of gunpowder exceeding twenty eight pounds, and not more than six and a quarter pounds in any one parcel, under a penalty of fifty dollars. Provided, that kegs of gunpowder for sale or shipment may be kept in store, or elsewhere in the city during the day, only from dawn to sunset.
